Iceland: Cape Green (AS8GO)
The proposal presents great insight into sustainable planning solution for the site with a realistic approach to create a new identity for a green office park.
The climate, dark winters and bright summers, the sustainable energy sources and a small population gives Iceland a different set of sustainability challenges. This proposal takes advantage of the spectacular views, makes the most of varying daylight conditions and the good connection to main traffic lines and public transportation. The strong winds calls for sheltering entrances and outdoor dwelling places, but it can also be used for natural ventilation.
The green office park shall, in contrast to the highway be the environmentally friendly place upon the hill. The main building is made more prominent by adding two storeys and a new entrance building in front of the main building provides shelter and is an active public place with various functions. The entrance building embraces a new square and gives the place a new identity and a focal point. The ideology of sustainability serves as a secure guide to designing an ideal work environment, both economically and operationally.
